dinner tonight

I recently received a late birthday present from my dear sister Janna. She gave me a terra cotta pizza stone, made from red clay from Alfred, New York (my hometown). When I was a kid I thought terra cotta was invented in Alfred, but since I've grown up I've learned that the ancient Greeks invented it. Alfred at one point had a fairly large and well-known terra cotta factory, though. All of that aside, we used our new pizza stone tonight! My husband, being part Italian, insists on perfect pizza, so he was the chef. This was our first real try, and we realized achieving pizza perfection will be a life-long quest. Being the first time around, it wasn't bad, though the crust was almost cracker-like, dry and chewy. For my husband, though, that is much better than having an overly soft, doughy crust.

Well it is an accomplishment you got George to try! It looks yummy to Bradley and I. I love that beautiful Alfred terra cotta....

George??

It looks good, yum!! I always make rectangular pizza, like they do in Italy, hehehe.

Here's our recipe:

We use fresh mozzarella balls, cut into strips, over hand-squeezed boiled tomatos mingled with fresh basil leaves. Then zucchini slices, onion slices, and garlic slices on top, with grouond pepper and fresh basil leaf bits. Oh, and whatever else you want on top - I just fell in love with the zucchini and garlic top in Italy. Then drizzle with dipping-quality olive oil and a tiny splash of balsamic. =)

I love homemade pizza SO MUCH!! I want one of those homey plates, too. Yummmm.

Yeah, my family has started calling Krestia "George" just because it's part of his last name, I guess. And it's sort of an initiation into the family to have a nickname...Martha has given us all unique nicknames.
