the great pastry awakening
It was a pleasure for me to witness, in the past week, my husband get bitten by the pastry bug. He has made three free-form tarts in one week (peach, plum, and pear). A week ago he had never made any kind of pastry. Now, behold the glory above! There are still a few glitches to work out--particularly figuring out how to keep all the juice from leaking out all over the baking pan and hardening into an impenetrable black glaze. The only other drawback is that his cooking urges strike later in the evening so the final product emerges from the oven after my bedtime. Which means I wake up to a messy kitchen. But it's worth it to enjoy such a treat!

I really love your blog.
Stories and snapshots centering around food, with recipes, to boot! I will visit often and plan to snatch more than a few of your recipes for my own. :)
On a side note, pastry-making Krestia probably wasn't inspired by this song of Joanna Newsom, but "peach, plum, pear" made me think of her refrain...
I sympathize with Krestia, as a late-night obsessive inspired cook / baker! (and MESS MAKER!!)
Remember when I called you in the middle of my first pie-making experience...and I was making 4 pies?? I think Krestia and I came out of the same oven. I ended up making 2 blueberry (one was sugar-free for my diabetic mom), 1 peach, and 1 strawberry. And I was covered in flour. And the kitchen was covered in sticky pie filling, squashed berries, flour, smears of criscoe, etc.....
BUT IT WAS SO FUN!!!
I APPLAUD KRESTIA!!!! Making a mess is half the fun. :):):)
Yum! I wish my husband would get inspired to cook, but I fear there isn't much hope for him. He only likes grilling. Tarts sound amazing--I want to bake more desserts.
Love you!
